Fridge (Miway)

On the 2nd October 2024 MiWay send out a technician of Merantz Technology to do a assessment on my Defy fridge. Here is the out come of the technician report to me. The fridge is powering on but not freezing. The fridge is smelling like some thing is burning. That is the report the technician left at me. This is the reply I got from MiWay.

We refer to your email disputing the outcome of your claim. We confirm having reviewed the merits of the matter and wish to respond as follows: On 30 September 2024, you submitted a MiHomeStuff claim for damage sustained to your Defy refrigerator at the risk address 177, Schmidt Street, Danville, which damage occurred on the same day.

The claim was rejected on the basis of No Cover – Gradual deterioration. During the telephonic claim submission, you stated that you opened the refrigerator and it was emitting an usual smell. You further state the smell was stronger in the freezing compartment. During the claims validation stage, MiWay appointed a service provider, namely Merantz Technology, to establish the proximate cause of the damage and to establish whether your claim falls within the ambit of the policy. The service provider conducted an assessment and found that the refrigerator is not cooling due to an internal leak. They further confirm that the pecu**** smell emitted is that of freon. The service provider confirms that the refrigerant has escaped because of an internal leak on the refrigerant pipes embedded in the refrigerator insulated cavity.

I were not happy with the out come of the claim. If it were a R2000.00 fridge i will understand But this is a R25000.00 fridge. So I call Defy to send me a technician to check the fridge. On 1ste November 2024 Defy's technician were here to do his assessment and find that the freezers motors fan were fitted the wrong way. He turn the fan around and re assemble the fridge. the fridge is still working 100% from that day.

This is very sad to have a insurance company to run they clients in like that. They are willing to give me back my R690.00 for the call out of Defy but know one will apologies for there mistake. I could have loos a fridge of R25000.00 due to MiWays mist conduct.
