Exceeding Excess and Premiums

I joined MiWay Insurance in Feb 2009, average premiums from R 1300 to R1550 for over 7 years, with cover for 2 vehicles, 1 rental vehicle option and household contents cover.

Estimated Total paid to date to MiWay +R 135 000.00

Claims history with MiWay over 7 years:

1x windscreen for a VW Citi Golf,

2x Windscreen claims for Honda Jazz,

1x accident claim to value of R 13 000 in damages to a vehicle. Excess then R 3600.00

In my opinion, I’m a low risk client and should have been given preferential rates from the start.

I always find the call centre staff very professional and friendly and eager to assist. on 27th July I had called in to have a claim processed and was surprised with the exorbitant excess, I then proceeded to lodge the claim and cancel my policy as it’s become too expensive in the 7 years and would rather get insurance cover that I can afford with lower or no excess.

MiWay has a 30 day cancellation period. So I lodged notice for cancellation on 27th July 2016.

I had my policy reviewed and my premiums reduced to R960.00 and glass excess dropped to zero on 27th July 2016, effective on 1st August 2016.

to my surprise I received updated policy docs again this morning stating my premiums and excess are back to what they were before the policy review on 27th July 2016, also effective 1st August 2016.

After 7.5 years of being a client, I have had enough broken promises and expectations falling flat to last a lifetime.

I really can’t see how they are doing things “My Way”.

I was contemplating staying with MiWay if they had stuck to the new rates I received on 27th July 2016, but now I can see that this is just a money making business where the lower risk clients will still get shafted if they don’t get comparative quotes and question their current insurance policy.
