DO NOT switch to Miway!!

We switched, after ± 14 years, with a well known insurance company, to Miway in October. The saving on our premium were ± R500 p/month, which was great, considering that I was facing retrenchment and also our current economy with everything getting more expensive by the day. In November my husband had an accident with his vehicle, not badly damaged (according to us), but it was a write off as it was not economical to repair. We took the buy out option. In the meanwhile, while not at home, we had a huge electric storm and on our return at home, we found 2 tv's (old box shape) was not working. We assumed that it was struck by lightning. We reported the claim as well. We had no problems with any of the claims. My husband bought another vehicle to replace the previous one. When I wanted to insure it, it was at a huge premium. We decided to wait a while. In December, while we were on leave, I received a call from Miway, they were no longer prepared to insure us as we are a too high risk.

1) If we stayed with our previous insurer, we would most certainly only have an increase on our premium, due to the claims. BIGGEST mistake to move to Miway.

2) Why do we pay a monthly premium if when something as unfortunate as an accident happen or a lightning incident happen, which we have no control over, but we cannot claim?

I would advise anyone that wants to switch to Miway, to reconsider, as we made an enormous mistake by doing this. We will now have to get a new insurance which will be much more expensive due to Miway cancelling our insurance.

Miway did phone me. Explanation is that the amount paid out for the 2 unfortunate claims exceeds the amount paid for premiums since we switched to them. An Accident isn't something that is planned or have a sell by date, it occurs when you least expect it. Also can no-one control something like a lightning strike. But hey this is the most expensive lesson learned. I stand with my statement ... NEVER switch to Miway from your trustworthy insurer, as it is not worth the money!!!
