Disgruntled Miway customer

On the 2nd of May we were involved in a car accident in Umgeni road in Durban. We were on our way home when a drunk driver overtook us on the right while we were in the slipway busy turning. There were no traffic at that moment and all three the other lanes were without traffic. He ploughed into us, hit the curbstone, shot over all three lanes and crashed through a wall. He got out of the bakkie without a scratch. We were lucky to only sustain minor injuries. He hit us so hard that we were in the left lane after the accident.

I got out of the car and phoned my son to inform him of the accident and then phoned Miway's emergency number. Nobody even answered the phone. Later, after being to the police station to report the accident, I tried Miways' normal contact number. Still no response.

The accident was on a Monday. Our vehicle was towed to D-MAC in Durban. They were of more help than Miway was. In the days that followed I phoned Miway every day, leaving my contact details when the answering machine promised that a consultant will phone me back. By Wednesday there was still no contact with Miway. On Tursday I phoned D-MAC to find out what is happening. They had to phone Miway to find out what was the verdict about my car. At that stage the message was that the assessor was still busy with it. A week later there was still no communication from Miway.

A few days later I got an email stating that my vehicle was taken to Durban Central Panel beaters. Every time I phoned Miway to enquire about my car I only get the call center which in the end tells me to leave my number so they can phone me back, which never happened in any case. In desparation I phoned the panel beaters. They phoned Miway and reported back to me that the assessor was still busy with the claim. in the meantime I had to walk to work and back - in sunshine, rain and dangerous streets. I need my laptop to do my work, but I cannot walk in the street with it, so I have to lock it up in the store room for safekeeping and my workload is increasing.

Today is a month after the accident and after phoning the panelbeaters yesterday, heard from THEM that the car will not be repaired but will be written off. So far I had no email in this regard from Miway. When eventually I got through to Miway today, the operator could not even confirm that it was the case. It is the worst case of miscommunication that I have ever encountered.

The sad part of it is that I encouraged my friendS and family to use Miway for insurance. Now I have to tell them of the bad service this company gives despite all their promises on tv and radio. Their assessibility is non-existant. What would have happened if we were seriously injured that day? Would we still be stranded in Durban? We had to hire a car to get back home, at our own costs.

I am deeply dissappointed in Miway! I never skipped a payment and do not deserve

Disgruntled,

Victoria de Bruno-Austin
