Claim Rejected on "Dishonesty"
So, here goes my story:
My house got broken into on the 26th of November between 3AM and 4AM. I was out of the house at the time. Upon returning to the house at around 04:10, I noticed that the house was broken into. The font sliding gate was close and locked but the sliding door was open with the curtain closed. The back door was wide open with the couch that is usually close to the door pushed away. I noticed that my computer monitor was also not where it was supposed to be, it was on the couch. Further Details are available on this. How they broke in was not immediately clear. While going through the house and the while by the open back door, I saw a police van drive past at around 04:40. I shouted at the police to come to my house to see what had just happened. To the police and myself, it was clear that there was ransacking in the house and they broke in somewhere but we did not see how they broke in at the time. What was immediately obviously missing was my computer, hardrives, iPad, DSLR Camera (its lens and battery included). I hadn't at the time, I hadn't realized that everything else was missing. The people from the complex, Lesego, Jonathan and another guy (I forgot his name) came to the house to see what had happened.
When they asked about what was ******, I told them about the same things that I had told the police. They asked if my TV was ******, I told them that I had given my TV to my parents. They referred to the TV that they expected to see in the living room. Because the police told me not to touch anything until the police's forensic department came to do an investigation, not everything that was missing was immediately clear. I went to sleep between 7AM and 8AM that morning because I had an appointment with the doctor at around 11:30. When I was leaving to go to the doctor at around 11:05, I realized that the sliding gate was forced open at the bottom and they had bent a knob that the gate slides on.
When I was on the phone with MiWay later on that day, I realized it that the TVs, among many other things, that were in the closet were also ******. So, because there was no clear and obvious sign to the police that the ******* had broken in, and that I only realized it later that the TVs were also ******, my claim was rejected. I am being accused of being dishonest. Which is a very serious finding. Something else that they seem to be pestering me on is that I gave them the wrong sizes of the TVs.
What I have picked up is that they did not want to approve this claim from the onset. They looked for any loophole that they could get. My state of mind when the police came to the house was totally different to later on when I was on the phone with MiWay's consultants. I have a made that comes to the house and cleans for me regularly. She comes to clean my place often - I have mentioned this to them. She knows what is in the house and what isn't. They did not bother to contact her to verify the information I had given them. They instead re**** on people who's 1st visit to my house was on the day of the incident. Lesego, Jonathan and those police do not live with me. They do not know what was in the house.
I'm going to challenge their finding legally. This is a serious reputation damage on my part especially for wrong reasons.
I would not recommend anyone to take insurance with MiWay because of what I have just gone through. They will use anything you say or do wrong against you. Dishonesty is not something I have done in this claim.
