Carless and now hopeless

I was involved in an accident on 27 September 2016. MiWay was fantastic and we got the ball rolling to have my car repaired quite soon after the accident. They sent my car from Escourt to Ladysmith so it could go to one of their approved service providers.

On 19 October, I paid R4500 for the work to start. I was told it would take 2 weeks for repairs. 16 days later, I phoned the service provider and they told me it would be another week. The next week, I phoned again and was told it would be ready on 16 November. on 17 November I phoned again and I was told 'hopefully next Wednesday'. The next Thursday I phoned AGAIN and was told that it would be the following Tuesday (28 November). I phoned again and asked about my car and, while I was understandably upset, I tried to stay calm and politely express my displeasure at this service. The owner told me he would hang up the phone if I spoke to him like that. He then told me that while painting the car, they noticed that the axel was bent and it would be another week.

I know that my frustration is with this service provider, but I have emailed MiWay and tried to get through telephonically as I find it absolutely unacceptable that THIS is the kind of service they approve of. The emails have been ignored and I can;t get to the right department on the phone. It is ridiculous that I pay hundreds of Rands in insurance every month only to have to fight my own battles with a service provider that wasn't even my choice. If this is the kind of service provider you approve of - someone who didnt notice a bent axel (when the tow truck driver at the scene of the accident noticed i), someone who doesn't even have the decency to phone and notify their clients of delays or provide accurate time estimates without apology.

I was so hopeful after my initial experience with MiWay, but I will be looking into other insurers so that I am not left carless for over 2 months in the future. I would at least appreciate SOME assistance from the people I pay to help me when something goes wrong with my car.

Hi MiWay

Thank you for your assistance. I doubt I would have gotten anywhere without it.

I did get my car back at long last, but am still deeply disappointed in the repairer and I sincerely hope that you won't refer any of your clients to them. I got my car back without its arial (so no more radio for me), cigarette lighter insert and my driver's side mat has also disappeared. I went to them personally to enquire about these items and they promised that they would contact me, which still hasn't happened almost 2 months later. The boot of my car (that was repaired by them) is also sitting further away from the body than it should and my back seat no longer lifts up. This was a horrible experience and I am deeply upset that I am missing so much and that the repairs were so shoddy and I really, really hope that nobody else has to go through this heartache. PLEASE reconsider your approval of Dave's Panelbeaters.

Kind regards

Nicole Stroebel
