BEWARE: Avoid MiWay and their underhand business practices.

I am the owner of a 2013 VW Polo Vivo 1400. This car has been insured with MiWay since I bought it in 2016 and I have been claim-free since - in fact I have been claim-free from all insurance companies for at least 15 years. Despite this fact, every year MiWay increases my premium by double, triple or even more than that of the rate of inflation. In the past two years the increase was in the region of 16%, this year it is 24,2%! In addition, the excess I have to pay on a claim has also been increased by 10%! If you phone them and are prepared to spend half an hour or more on the phone, they will probably reduce it to a fairer level, but GUARANTEED the next year's increase will once again defy belief. The person I spoke to last year admitted that the current premium and your claim-free record is not taken into account at all when the computer generates an automatic increase. This increase is therefore clearly based on the maximum they can possibly ask and the fact that you are an existing client is to your detriment, because they do not have to lure you into their web with an attractive premium and they believe you are there already and probably do not wish to change insurers every year. So, if you want to have a GUARANTEED premium increase of double inflation or more every year, consider MiWay, if not, do not even give them the opportunity to quote.

Further to the above, MiWay responded to the issue as follows: They send me two e-mails saying they tried to contact me (my phone never rang) and I must phone them. You then have to sit in the queue until the call is answered and then explain the entire problem to someone who does not know the background. After that, the person repeatedly tries to justify the completely unjustifiable increase of more than five times inflation, on a car which has decreased in value and therefore have decreased their exposure and accompanying risk. Finally, when this process has raised your blood level a number of notches with clearly no way forward, she puts you through to a senior adviser. (This again took a few agonising minutes). This person then tries, even harder, more forcefully and with more persistence, to justify the completely unjustifiable increase of more than five times inflation, further irritating you. When you question the logic and try to point out how an increase of that magnitude can never be explained away, she interrupts you half way through, showing zero signs of trying to understand that the extent of the increase is obviously ludicrous. She did however finally reduce the increase to only (!) 12,8%, still more than double inflation. Here is a suggestion to MiWay: There can clearly be no justification for a five times inflation increase in premium when there has been no claims and your risk exposure has decreased, so please do not even try to justify it - all that will happen is that it will increase the irritation immensely. If you are going to sincerely attempt to get to a fair premium, start that process immediately. All you have done is demonstrated that you are not interested in providing a fair premium to existing clients. The warning to prospective clients can only be further emphasised.
