Avoid MiWay
I recently sold my car which was insured with MiWay. I phoned MiWay and asked them to please take my car off their insurance as I was selling it.
I received a call from a different MiWay rep the next day saying that if I convince the new owner to insure it with MiWay, and he doesn’t claim within 4 months, they will give me R1000 cash and the new owner their 4th months premium free. So I phoned the new owner and I said he should try insure it with MiWay and explained their offer. He agreed to insure it with MiWay.
4 months later, I phoned the new owner to check if he had any claims, which he didn’t. So I phoned MiWay to claim the cash back, and was quickly told that the new owner was a previous MiWay client. They said that offer was only valid for new members. The problem I have with that is they failed to tell me that initially on the phone. They said they did tell me that, but I asked them to pull up the pre-recorded conversation I had with the rep, which they said they would, but never did. Since then they have been ignoring all my mails.
I don't care about the money, but have a BIG issue with it out of principle. My feeling is that if they come up with a whole bunch of excuses and hidden terms and conditions now when I try to claim for one of their benefits, how do we know they will actually pay out in the event of an accident?
I won’t be insuring any of my cars with MiWay in future and won’t be recommending them to anyone either. In fact I’d strongly recommend that you avoid them.
