A horrible experience at Miway

I have been paying my premiums for vehicle insurance at Miway for every month for a few years. My policy has a 30 day rental payment on it ... specifically so that I do not have to pay for an rental vehicle while my car is being fixed. Last month I had my first claim, a vehicle drove into my car while it was parked. So, nothing complex about this claim.

1) I logged the claim on 21/5/2017, and the same day organised a Miway approved agency to remove my car. So, all was well from my side.

2) As a side issue to my real problem, my phone was also damaged in the accident. I mailed Miway to the e-mail address provided to ask whether I can claim for this ... I am still waiting for a reply event though I followed up the e-mail request with a discussion via phone. To date, no feedback on this whatsoever.

3) My vehicle damage claim was approved on 2nd of June. Twelve days later.

4) However, the panel beater appointed told me that they did not have parts. It is now more than 5 weeks after the accident. The panel beater still don’t have parts. My 30 days vehicle rental insurance has long since expired.

5) I phoned Miway almost two weeks ago to request that they extend the vehicle rent payment since they took 12 days to approve a standard claim and then gave my vehicle to a panel beater who does not have parts. They said they will respond on the same day. Nothing happened.

6) I then phoned their call centre again about a week later to once again request that they extend the vehicle rent payment – since they selected a panel beater without parts and took 12 days to approve a claim. I insisted this time that they pone me back on the same day. Once again I was informed that they will get back to me within a day. Again nothing happened. Nothing.

7) By this time I had to pay more than R3000 to Avis for vehicle rent ... and still the panel beater’s feedback is simply that they are sorry, they don’t have parts. So they cannot repair the vehicle.

8) Today I phoned Miway again and demanded that I talk to some senior. This senior person simply told me that Miway will not extend their vehicle rent. No justification for this, it is simply their policy and I have to accept this.

I had a claim with Santam a few years ago. I recall that they took about 4 days to approve my claim and gave my vehicle to a panel beater who had parts. My vehicle is a stock standard Isuzu 2.5 diesel bakkie ... so I do not believe that there is any part shortage in the market for this vehicle.

I currently feel that my Miway insurance was not “real” insurance. Sure, they are paying to get the vehicle fixed (if that ever happens) but I am going to have to pay thousands of rand (at this stage, more than R3000 already) for vehicle rent because they took 12 days to approve a claim and then handed my vehicle to a panel beater who, after more than 5 weeks, still don’t have the parts to fix a stock standard Isuzu bakkie.

This is not OK. I am changing back to “real” vehicle insurance with Santam as soon as this nightmare is done.

Thanks for your note - we have passed it on to our Claims team and someone will be in touch with you first thing tomorrow morning!

And so the horrible experience continue ....
1) I did get a call from MiWay as their reply suggests. Their consultant told me that the car is almost ready. They are only waiting for a towbar. I was extatic and told MiWay that I will go and get the bakkie.
2) I got a call a few hours later from MiWay. They said that something else is also wrong and that they will get back to my by 3pm yesterday. I am still waiting ... they simbly did not call or leave a message on my phone. Nothing.
3) So, I talked to the pannelbeaters. They told me that the whole bakkie is in pieces and not even close to being fixed.
4) At this stage, I am no longer experiencing that MiWay is giving me bad service. I experience that they are delibereritaly lying to me. This is rediculous.
5) They are still refusing to pay for my vehicle rental (after the 30 days which was covered by my insurince) even though they are clearly in the wrong. So, this is going to the onbidsman. Sad sad sad.

The coachworks came to the rescue ... and gave me a loan car. I am still not happy with the service from MiWay and the vehicle rental amount I had to pay ... but I suspect MiWay organised the loan vehicle. So, for that at least, I am thankfull to MiWay and will increase their star rating accordingly.

... also, what seems like the owner a the coachworks contacted me and gave me a full and detailed report on the vehicle. Finally I understand what is wrong with the vehicle and have an idea of when it will be finished.
I suspect this was also requested by MiWay and this is also part of the reason why I increased their rating.
