11days of pain with MiWay

On the 13th November 2016, my wife and I incurred an accident in Roodepoort. An elderly lady was in a hurry and attempting to beat the robot. She then hit us on the fender and it affected the bumper, bonnet of the car and the lights as well as cracked the windscreen.

We contacted our Insurer trusting that we will be taken care off. Now 11days later, my insurer is telling me I have "options," these "options" which were not made known to us when we were offered the cover.

1) When I quoted with MiWay, I was not sent any documents, I was assured that the calls are recorded and can be made available to me.

2) I have requested the documents since Thursday the 17th November with Sunette and to date, nobody can email the documents to us.

3) I have requested on Monday 21st atleast the calls, and to date, nobody has made those calls available to me.

Why am I requesting these pieces of information?

Thami a claims agent from MiWay has now informed me that I am liable to pay R10k in excess for this claim. Why? because I apparently agreed on, when I took up the policies, up to an additional excess of R5000 if an incident occurs within the 1st three months. I would like to hear myself consent to that utter ridiculousness.

Secondly, I have received a call from Simone at A1 assist today (23 November 2016), enquiring when I am coming to collect my car and that I must make a plan about it. This after on Monday 21 November 2016, the very same Thami who called to say he is finalising the claim, had advised that the car would be taken to VDS auto to be repaired. It is also in that call on Monday 21st that Thami came with a brilliant "option" that I was never made aware of:

1) I can repair my car myself and MiWay will apparently pay out a cash claim less the R10k.

2) The claim is valid for 6months, which means we can have up to 6months to graft R10k in order to have the car repaired with MiWay.

Both options which not only I was not aware of, I also am not in a position to take up because at the incident, the towing company advised that the car is not drivable as we do not know to what extent the car may incurr additional damages. The tow truck driver is the one who said that since Mercedez Benz sensors are in the front, he is afraid that if he tries to tow the car or we drive the car, the airbags may deploy. This is why the car was towed away on a flat bed truck.

I will admit, I am new to insurance in the case of having a policy under my name. The car with which I was involved in an accident, was the first car in my own name and my very first accident. I dont however believe that this if fair that the lady who hit my car was insured with Outsurance, she hit me on Sunday 13th and her claim was finalised with me out on Tuesday the 15th, her car is currently being repaired.

I on the other hand, must continue to search and find someone to assist me at MiWay. The people who claim to have my best interest at heart and will even allow me to structure insurance Miway.

MiWay does not seem to even be interested in how the accident happened, it was not until I followed up on the 17th that MiWay even showed interest in understanding what happened with the accident. The lady who was supposed to assist with the claim on Sunday, Keneilwe, was not even interested if we have transport from the scene of the accident and my wife uses a wheelchair which means that modes of public transport are not always conducive.

I am displeased with MiWay's service and pained by the treatment I am receiving.
