Triton failure
After an amazing Botswana trip with friends, my Triton suddenly went into limp mode. I contacted Mitsubishi and was told not to worry, that it was probably just an error. That meant I had to drive more than 1,000 km home at a maximum speed of around 80 km/h.
The following day the dealership told me they had found water and dirt in the fuel system. The photos they showed me looked like someone had scooped mud out of a *** wallow and put it in my fuel filter. Their immediate response was to blame “dirty diesel.”
Here’s what doesn’t make sense: three vehicles travelled together, filled up at exactly the same fuel stations, and only my Triton had this problem. If it was contaminated fuel, why was mine the only vehicle affected?
I bought a Triton because it is marketed as a vehicle built for adventure and African conditions. Instead, I ended up crawling home from Botswana in limp mode and then being told it was my fault without any proper investigation.
Experiences like this make me wonder whether Mitsubishi is still building true 4x4 vehicles, or whether the Triton has become more of a city SUV with off-road marketing.
