Rental deposit

I have been renting one of their apartment and did not send the cancellation notice because i missed the email as my laptop at some stage was ****** Now they have told me that they are taking 1 month rent deposit even though my lease has expired. I'm really not happy with this treatment as i paid their rent through out covid on time now they are penalizing me. I would like your view on this matter.
