"Impact damige" excuse from Irfaan - the man who reports to no one, but can't spell 'damage'?
I've dealt with Mintys, and fitted Nexon tyres to the four family cars for a few years now, believing it to be a well priced quality product.Having purchase Nexon tyres a few months ago from Mintys Rosebank for my vehicle, I suffered a blow-out on the left rear tyre whilst driving on the freeway recently. It was quite an experience. The blow-out occurred on the inside of the tyre. I returned to Mintys to get the tyre replaced, as I knew the tyre was still under warranty. I was told that they would have to send the tyre to head office to be assessed. I would have purchase a new tyre in the meantime, and once the results of the assessment were received they could refund me. I comp****. I got a call from the branch a week later to say that the assessment report had been received, stating that the blow-out was as a result of "Impact Damige" (sic) and there would be no refund.
I was given the phone number of Irfaan, the person who had assessed the tyre, whom I immediately called, as I knew the assessment was incorrect. Irfaan informed me that if I go and look at the tyre, he had marked the impact area where the tyre had hit something causing it to burst. I informed him that that could not be the impact area because I had not hit anything when the tyre burst. "That's according to you" was his response. I drove to the branch quite interested to see this impact area as I knew there had been no impact. On examining the tyre, a small chip out of the rubber, also on the inside of the tyre, that quite easily could have been cause by a shooting stone, had been marked as where the impact had taken place. An impact sufficient to cause a tyre to burst. This was absolutely ridiculous.
I called Irfaan again to ask him two questions; the first being how such a tiny chip on the tyre could possibly be an impact area sufficient to burst a tyre; and the second on how he would have imagined I could have impacted the inside of a tyre, a rear tyre at that. "I don't know how it happened, but that's the impact area". On realising this man had no idea about logic, and wasn't willing to entertain any sort of reason, I ask to speak to his superior. "I don't report to anyone" was the response???!!! He reports to no-one, yet the man can't spell the word 'damage'. I shudder to think of what level of governance and quality control practices would have to exist, or not exist, in this organisation to allow a situation such as this arise.
Needless to say I will not be dealing with such an organisation in future. Allowing an employee of Irfaan's calibre to deal with customers, on what could potentially be fairly sensitive issues, is concerning. I've was literally told by Irfaan that I'm lying. Making a statement like that, based on such ridiculous evidence, is just shocking. I have the tyre and invite an responsible member of Minty's senior management to inspect it themselves. My opinion of this being a quality product has been drastically altered. That, coupled with me been accused of lying after I was put in danger by this product, rules Mintys out for good.
