Damaged earth cable due to battery replacement
I went across to Minty's in Greenside to query if they did installations of batteries which they confirmed they could. As my car (Hyundai i20) was parked in our office parking across the road, the store manager said he would check the spec online and order the battery. They would then check that it is the right battery prior to installation.
Once the battery arrived, their installer brought the battery to my car, confirmed the size was correct and installed the battery. Two days later my car would not start and following a jump start, i took it back to Minty's. They advised that there must be cable issue and i should take it to Hyundai. The car was towed to Hyundai, they stated that the earthing cable was stretched and damaged.
Following further discussions between Hyundai and Minty's, it was explained that the battery had depressed terminals, where it should have raised terminals and as a result the cable was being stretched to reach the terminals. Thus damaging the cable as well as causing the connection to the battery to fail. Hyundai have subsequently raised an invoice for cable replacement, labour and towing - for which Minty's should be liable. Minty's have refused to entertain such a claim and stated that they would just refund the purchase of the battery, should i want to return it .
This damage would not have taken place had the correct battery been installed. The Minty's staff confirmed that they had the capabilities and knowledge to install batteries and as such the damage to my vehicle is a direct result of gross negligence on their behalf.
