Miltons Matsemela excessive charges for their services!

I am helping a friend of mine who recently bought her first flat and Miltons Matsemela was appointed to deal with the transfer. When many of my friends heard that Miltons will be dealing with the transfer they already warned me about how expensive they are and that they do not offer discount, even for first time home buyers.

I received a letter from them stating that we must PLEASE ask the bank to also appoint them to attend to registering our bond. The bank that eventually offered us the best rate included in the deal a 50% discount on whoever we decide to appoint as conveyancer attorneys. I specifically asked them to deal with Miltons (as I thought they will give us some discount on the transfer of the property as well seeing that we are then providing them with reciprocal business).

We received an account in excess of R33 000 from Miltons on a flat of R1.1m. I should have listened to my friends. One of my friends also bought a flat 2 weeks before us for R1.05m and their conveyancer only charged them R25000. How does Miltons justify charging us R8000 more for a property that is just R50k more expensive.

The worst is that the director of Miltons Matsemela, Nadia de Kock, emailed me and said "our firm's policy is to only discount fees when the firm is offered reciprocal business". She goes further to explain that this means they will only offer discounts if I appointed them to register the bond as well. She then states that "we will not be in a position to grant a further discount on the transfer fees" as there is already a discount on the registration fee's of the property, but this was offered to us by the bank and not Miltons.

It is clear that they are making up on the transfer fees for the discount offered by the bank to us on the registration of the property.

Very disgusted in their way of conducting business, especially during these COVID times where people are generally struggling financially. Make sure not to use these conveyancers ever!!!!
