Denied Fair Opportunity to Write Supplementary Exam Despite Technical Difficulties and Effort

I am a registered student at Milpark Education and I am extremely disappointed with how my recent exam concern was handled.

I wrote my exam using a borrowed laptop, unaware that it did not meet the technical requirement of 2GB RAM — my device had only 0.3GB of free RAM. This significantly affected the performance of the exam system, especially during the final minutes. Despite this, I did my best however I could not complete the paper under pressure and anxiety.

After the exam, I reached out on 27 May 2025 and was advised by Milpark staff that results would be released within 4 to 6 weeks right I asked on when it can be marked, and that deferrals would not be accepted after results were out. I accepted this and followed the advice given to me in good faith. Later, I was informed that I do not qualify for a supplementary exam, which was incredibly disheartening.

I was only made aware after the exam that in order to qualify for a supplementary, students must obtain at least 45% in the summative assessment. My final overall mark was 48%, yet because my summative result was below the threshold, I was disqualified. I believe this requirement should have been clearly communicated beforehand.

What makes this more unfair is that I do not believe my script was properly reviewed, despite Milpark saying they “investigated.” I don’t think a full and fair review was done, especially considering the technical struggles I experienced and the fact that I had to rush my last question under intense anxiety.

I also explained that I am going through financial hardship and do not have the means to buy a compliant laptop. I rely on borrowed equipment just to write my assessments, and I was hoping to purchase a laptop once I sorted my registration for the next semester.

All I’m asking for is to be granted an opportunity to write the supplementary exam. I’m not asking for a free pass — just a fair chance to prove myself. I followed the rules, communicated openly, and trusted the process, yet I feel ignored and unsupported.

I hope Milpark reconsiders my case and begins to show compassion toward students who are genuinely trying despite facing challenges.

I would also like to clarify that I was unable to complete my exam due to technical difficulties. Milpark claims that I completed the exam “successfully,” but this is inaccurate and misleading. I used a borrowed laptop that had only 0.3GB of free RAM — well below the required 2GB. As a result, I experienced system lag and a black screen just before I could submit my final question. I requested help during and after the exam, asking for a chance to complete it, but Milpark stated it was not their responsibility and offered no solution. After the exam, I reached out again asking when my paper would be marked, and was told by Milpark support on 27 May 2025 to wait 4 to 6 weeks. I followed that guidance — only to be told afterward that I could no longer apply for a deferral. I was never offered the Academic Committee special request (AC) that Milpark later claimed had been extended to me. I checked all my communication history — there is no record of such an offer. I requested a supplementary exam, as my final mark was 48%, and Milpark’s own policy states that students who achieve between 45% and 49% may qualify. But I was told I don’t qualify because my summative mark was below 45%, and that this decision depends on how the programme manager “feels.” This is highly unfair — it shows decisions are not based on clear policy, but on subjective interpretation. I made it clear that I am under financial pressure, and I cannot afford to pay another R7600 to repeat the module — especially when I was denied the chance to finish my exam or be supported when it mattered most. I rely on borrowed devices and was planning to purchase a laptop once I had registered for the next semester. This entire experience has left me feeling unsupported and dismissed, despite trying my best under difficult conditions. Milpark must treat students with more empathy and apply their policies consistently. I am not asking for special treatment — only for fairness and a chance to continue working toward my future. Let me know once you’ve posted it, or if you'd like help taking a screenshot for your own records. You're doing the right thing by speaking up.

I am extremely disappointed with the way my matter has been handled. I have sent multiple emails clearly explaining my concerns, yet none of the responses have addressed my queries accurately. Each time, I’ve had to repeat myself, and it feels like my emails are not being properly read or understood.

Despite following the correct channels and reaching out to Doreen, Leigh, Jodie and others for help, I continue to receive responses that are either irrelevant or dismissive. This has caused unnecessary frustration and emotional stress, especially because I have been respectful and patient throughout this process.

All I have ever asked for is fair treatment and proper assistance. Unfortunately, the support I’ve received so far has been completely inadequate. I have all my emails as proof, which clearly show how my concerns have been ignored or misunderstood.

I am now requesting immediate intervention from someone who will take the time to understand the issue and help me resolve it properly. I am also available for a call, as written communication has clearly failed to bring clarity to this matter.

I am truly disappointed and frustrated. I submitted all the required evidence for my deferral application — including email communication, screenshots of technical issues, and call logs — yet my application was overlooked and later cancelled without proper explanation.
Now I’m being told I must submit a new appeal, even though I already provided everything the first time. This feels incredibly unfair and exhausting. I followed the correct process, acted in good faith, and tried every possible channel to get assistance — but I’m still not being helped.
Being forced to go through an appeal again, despite clear evidence and communication, shows a lack of accountability and support. This experience has caused unnecessary emotional stress and academic disruption.

I am beyond frustrated with how Milpark is handling my deferral application. I submitted all the required evidence — including communication with the Senior Programme Manager, screenshots of my RAM, proof that I c
alled during the exam, and a complete deferral request. Yet, they declined it, saying I didn’t meet the requirements, which is simply not true.
To make matters worse, I was told to submit an appeal — for the same issue I had already provided full evidence for. While I’m still trying to understand how that’s fair, I then receive an SMS saying I’m registered for the same module. So which is it?
Milpark has created a confusing and emotionally exhausting experience. I’ve followed every process in good faith and comp**** with all requirements, only to be sent in circles with contradictory communication.
This is not just poor administration — it’s deeply unfair to a student who is simply trying to get assistance.

I am giving Milpark Education a final opportunity to respond to my concerns with honesty and transparency before I publicly release all the evidence regarding my case.

Despite multiple attempts to resolve my issue through proper channels, my concerns have been met with inconsistent communication and what appears to be a complete disregard for the evidence I submitted. I sent email trails and screenshots to support my case, yet it seems no one took the time to review them properly.

The level of confusion and lack of accountability is unacceptable from an institution that students trust with their education and money.

If I do not receive a proper, fact-based response within 48 hours, I will:

Upload all the evidence, including emails and screenshots, to a public platform Share the full link here on HelloPeter Post it on social media so the public can see the truth about how Milpark handles student concerns

The documents are already prepared. I am simply giving Milpark a final chance to address this professionally.

Let this serve as a formal and public warning.

I trusted Milpark Education with my future, but what I’ve received in return is confusion, poor communication, and a disregard for the truth.

I have kept every email, screenshot, and document to show exactly how my case has been handled — or rather, mishandled. You can see the proof for yourself here:

Milpark has 48 hours to do the right thing. If they don’t, the full story — with all the evidence — will be posted on social media for everyone to see.
Students deserve honesty. We deserve accountability.

Good day,

Thank you for your response.

I respect that the Academic Committee has issued a final decision, but I remain deeply concerned that key evidence I submitted does not appear to have been reviewed or considered. My emails and supporting documents show clear inconsistencies in how my case was handled, and I am requesting written confirmation of what specific evidence was reviewed as part of this decision.
I would appreciate clarity on:

  • The process followed in reviewing my case
  • Which documents and emails were taken into account
  • Whether there is any remaining recourse if critical evidence was overlooked

I am committed to resolving this matter fairly and transparently and appreciate your urgent attention to these concerns.

Kind regards,
Portia

Good day,

Thank you for your reply.

I note that the Academic Committee has issued its decision; however, I do not accept that this matter has been handled fairly. The evidence I submitted, including emails and screenshots, appears to have been overlooked or not fully reviewed.

I am formally requesting that this case be escalated beyond the Academic Committee for independent review, or that I be provided with a detailed breakdown of the evidence considered in reaching this conclusion.

Without this clarity, I will have no choice but to pursue further channels to have this matter addressed.

Kind regards,
Portia
