Miladys -poor customer service!

I purchased a pair of underwear from Milady's -*** for R349 late in the afternoon on 8/9/2026. When I got home, I realised that the underwear looked smaller than expected. I did purchase an XL as indicated on the hanger, however the tag showed L and only then did I see that is was a Shapewear. I also realised that the underwear had a very small waistline. This would only fit a very slim woman and obviously not for a plus size women. Before buying the item, I checked the material, it was a soft stretchy material and judging from previous purchases of underwear made from the same type of fabric, I gathered that it would fit a plus size woman like myself. The underwear was folded and tucked in the hanger, so one cannot see that the waistline is unusually small. It clearly does not make sense to have an underwear made for plus size women and the waistline cannot even go up the knees. I took the underwear the very next morning to Milady's and requested to see the store manager. The lady indicated that she could assist, so I explained the issue and asked to exchange it for an XL as it was their fault for having the underwear on the wrong hanger. I was then asked if the cashier advised me on this particular underwear and that I was supposed to take a size bigger than my usual size. She also indicated that the cashier should have checked the underwear, explained to me that this is a shapewear and should have checked the sizes and displayed the underwear to me and advised me on the size and the fit. I said I was NOT advised accordingly and requested for the cashier to verify. I was told that the cashier was gone on lunch. She then simply told me that "we cannot return underwear" and there is nothing she can do. I tried to get her to understand that it was not my fault as the item was on the wrong hanger and I was not aware that I must take a size bigger than the usual. She wouldn't hear me out and simply said, we cannot exchange or return underwear, I then indicated that I will complain to Head office, she simply said go ahead and gave me a printout of the customer service contact details. As I walked out the store, she spoke to the other ladies in her vernacular and they all laughed and I knew somehow, she was mocking me. That was extremely rude and ********* for a manager to behave in that manner. It was really embarrassing and I will NEVER walk into that store again. I am fully aware that one cannot return underwear for hygienic purposes, which I have no grouse about and will be prepared to lose that money should the underwear not fit as expected. However, the principal of the matter is, the staff should have been trained on the products in the store, especially those items that cannot be returned or refunded. Extreme precaution should be taken to ensure that such items are well inspected for flaws and the packaging should be very clear with additional details to assist the customer in making the right purchase. The Buyer should ensure that new products are suitable for its customers, especially a store like Milady's who cater for plus size women. The policy of "no exchange of underwear" only caters for the seller and not the customer. The seller does not care, once the item leaves the store, it is their sales. The customer bears the losses. The policy of no return or exchange of underwear, in my opinion should be reviewed and provisions are to be made to protect the customer as well from unnecessary losses. Stores are taking advantage of this policy and are not ensuring that suitable products are being sold and not advising customers appropriately. Simply telling customers 'sorry no returns" is lame and despicable.
