MANDANDLED AT THE MILADY'S DURBAN, WEST STREET BRANCH

I am truly appalled by the service that I received at the Milady’s West Street, Durban branch. Not only was I manhandled but their apparent security personnel but I was treated like a ******** without any suspicious behaviour on my side.

I entered the Miladys branch and nbody stopped me at the door when I entered and there weren't any notices other than promotional sale notices. I proceeded to look around, try on what I wanted and go pay for it. When I gave the cashier the item that I came to exchange she told me that your systems were offline and she couldn't do the exchange but she would be able to do my purchase. I said fine, I'll just come back some other time to return my item, she can proceed with the purchase for now.

I thereafter proceeded to the door and that's when the drama started. The security insisted to search my bag, I didn't want him to but I was just in the mood to put up a fight so I let him. When he saw the Miladys plastic in my bag (with the item I wanted to exchange) he stopped me from exiting. I told him I came to exchange this and it was not ******, if it was ****** those security beams would go off. So I proceeded to walk out and that's when he manhandled me. I just went ballistic and didn't engage with him anymore and went straight to the manager.

I asked around who the manager was and they showed me. She came and she, like the security personnel, treated me like a ********. I was the one who suggested that they ask for slips so that they can see that the item weren't ******. When they realized that the item wasn't ******, the manager didn't apologize once. Instead she went on to say that it is standard procedure for you to let the security guard know that you have an item in your bag from the same store. Not only is it the Miladys procedure but the west street procedure.

I then highlighted to her that I did not know of this procedure. I do not ship at west street and usually shop at gateway. The reason why I was in town is because I was doing my hair. I further told her that even if I did shop at wesr street, the fact that they don't have any notice alerting me to their procedure, I do not know of it. I'm not an employee at Miladys hence I don't know Miladys procedure. I will only know of such procedure when I am alerted to it when I enter the store through some notice or someone telling me, of which nobody did and there was no such notice. In addition, the procedures for Miladys are different. Not once have I been searched at the Gateway or La Lucia Miladys so how was I supposed to know that the west street procedure was different.

Throughout this conversation the Mangaer and security guard were rude, condescending and the worst to deal with. Bringing the manager didn't help with anything as the situation was not diluted to become more manageable however it turned to a shouting match at the store entrance.

Words cannot describe how disgusted I am with Miladys. Not once did I ever imagine that I would be manhandled and be treated like a ******** with no suspicious behavior on my side or any concrete evidence. The manager kept on saying that it was their right to act the way that I acted and I continued to point out that it's not their right to manhandle customers and search their bags. Bags can only be searched if there a notice at the entrance to that effect. The guy at the entrance wasn't even wearing a security uniform nor did he identify himself as an employee of Miladys

The security guard refused to give me his name, the manager also. The security guard finally gave me his name (Simphiwe Tshabalala) however I doubt this is his name as this is the same name as a famous soccer player. The manager’s name was Lindiwe, and she would be able to state who was on duty at the entrance.

I expect this complaint to be handled accordingly and to be informed of the actions taken. Nobody should ever encounter what i encountered today. Being manhandled and thereafter not even an apology for what had transpired and an appreciation that they misread the situation.

It is now Friday and this incident happened on Monday and I have not heard anything from Milady’s. The only communication that I have received is from your FB page saying that they will investigate. This is totally unacceptable.
