Fat Shamed by your staff!

At Kyalami corner shopping centre I was fat shamed just before closing time, Saturday 6 September. This lady of small stature, busy folding shirts looked at me holding a shirt in front of me, asked if she can help me. I said I just wanted to see if it would fit, without trying it on. She asked me what size I had, I said it’s a large and she then told me with attitude, “no way that would fit you, you better take an xl.”

I responded no I don’t think so, and she told me with annoyance - “just go try it on”, with an added sigh. Her tone was one of annoyance for the majority of the time I was in the store. I went to try it on feeling quite embarrassed thinking, gosh do I look that big! I had gained quite a bit of weight with my last baby and I do feel self conscious.

When I went in to try it on the large was actually too big and I ended up taking a medium!!!! When I told her the large was too big, she looked at me incredulously and said “ really?” As if I must be so large no way I could fit into this item of clothing. All of this in-front of her colleagues.

Whilst I was paying she also seemed more interested in making remarks to her colleagues. In a store for women who are plus sized! Is this how you treat your customers???? I left in a rush feeling quite embarrassed.
