A Bitter Taste

My Mother LOVES a carvery, and so when I asked her where she would like to go for Mother's day lunch, without hesitation she said "Mike;s Kitchen Please!" We had been to lunch there about a year previously, and had fond memories of good, wholesome reasonably priced food in a pleasant environment. I Called ahead and booked, and even inquired about the carvery. When we got there, it was packed, and we were squeezed into a small table on the veranda. We both ordered the Carvery, and went for Salad, which was a reasonable offering of the basic salads. My mom, being old school went straight for the Carvery, and came back with a generous plate. I followed suit, and enjoyed a tasty plate of the basic home cooked style food that we were looking forward to. After a somewhat meager desert offering of jelly and custard, and what can only be described as a dry-ish Malva cake, we were ready to leave. I asked for the bill, and almost had a coronary when it arrived. The last time we had eaten here, a year or so ago, I had paid R95 per head for the carvery. I was expecting R150 per head at worst, but was accosted with a bill of R500 for 2 people! At a Mikes Kitchen! Carvery! When I questioned the manager about the bill, I was told, "Yes, Its R225 each, because it's Mother's Day!" Complete spoiler! Shame on you Mike's Florida Glen for unashamedly profiteering on Mothers day. I paid, and we left. A bitter pill in my mouth, but certainly in Mike's Kitchens cash register too, as that will be the last time they see me. I felt distinctly Zuma'd!
