Purchased a 2004 Yamaha R6 from Midrand Motorcycles on 24/02/2026. Was advised by the owner (Yash Maharaj) that the bike was in good working order but that it needed a set of tyres and some cosmetic attention. I accepted this, made payment for the bike and opted to have it delivered to me (as I am based in Durban). The courier that was going to deliver the bike could only collect it on the 4th of March. Bike was then delivered to me at 22h20 on 05/03/2026 (this was due to the courier having car trouble so I cannot blame Midrand Motorcycles for that). Upon receiving the bike, I started it and took it for a short test ride. I noted that the clutch lever was very stiff, the rear brake did not work at all and the indicators + hazard lights did not work. Yash was contacted (via WhatsApp) and I relayed the issues to him. He advised that the clutch cable probably just needed to be lubed or replaced, the hazards/indicators were most likely a blown fuse (which they were) and that the rear brake was working fine when he tested the bike (but that he asked one of his staff to bleed the brakes before it left his shop - which was presumably not done). I then sent the bike off to RBS Yamaha to have the tyres replaced and they advised that the seals in the rear brake master cylinder had failed and would need to be rebuilt. I was happy to pay for the tyres but had previously been advised (by Yash) that the braking system was in good working order (which was not the case). Moral of the story - If you want to purchase a bike from Midrand Motorcycles, go view them yourself or have a qualified bike mechanic or a friend view them for you.
