Refusal to replace item purchased in store

I purchased an Oil Drain holder 5L from Midas Woodmead, Johannesburg on 21 December 2022. I used the drain holder a few days later to drain oil from my Motorcycle, only to find out that the oil holder had two small holes in it. The result was oil spillage on my paving.

I took the oil holder back to Midas on the 27th of December and asked for a replacement. The owner, Ms. Michelle Peters, told me they cannot replace it, but it has to be sent back to the supplier to check how this had happened.

I did not argue, I agreed, but was told I have to come back in January 2023 once the supplier reopens.

I called back in January, twice in February and now in March. The same excuse is given to me: The supplier approved the replacement and Midas will call when when it is available to pick up.

This is unacceptable now. If you buy from a franchise store or any store, there are replacement or refund terms. I believe I was within the return/refund period. It is not my problem if a store's supplier supplies them with a defect product. The customer needs to be offered one of the two resolutions.

I still await a resolution up to now on the 20th of March 2023.
