Midas Incompetence - the trilogy completed (Box Set part 2 and 3)

They did it AGAIN!!!!

I would like to call out Jaymees Midas (Hillfox) as well as Midas head office.

The story continues from the last reveiw left on the 17th of January 2020. If I thought the first instalment was bad then I should have given more time for the sop****re and the third instalment of this trilogy.

As mentioned in my previous review, I made a purchase of a car battery (Midas Gold 658) on the 4th of January 2020 in Ballito while on holiday. However, I live in Gauteng and when I bought the battery I was told that it carried a 2 year national warranty in addition to the lie that I could get my deposit paid for returning my battery at any store.

Not being considered as an essential service employee I like millions of other South Africans spent months working from home. The result being that I didn't drive much. Then I decided to wash my car in December and when I got ready to park it back in it's place the car wouldn't start. The battery had completely died.

I then visisted the store mentioned above and they sent me to a Battery Centre as they said that the waranty was covered by them as it was a First National Battery (FNB). I done so and was told that this was not the case and that I would need to pay for the charging of the battery if I left it with Battery Centre. Which didn't make financial sense to me as this was surely not my bill to pick up.

So, I returned to the store with the battery on the 21st of December 2020. I was told that the battery would be sent off to be checked and that it would be taken the next day. Trying to be considerate (festive period) I allowed up to the morning of the 6th of January 2021(09:11) to follow up and was advised that I would get a call later that day to come and collect the battery.

I called them back in the late afternoon of the 7th of January after they failed to deliver on the promise to return my call. They said I should come through to fetch the battery. There were no stickers on the battery to even suggest that it had left the store let alone been sent away to be charged. However, I was assured that it was back from being charged. When I decided to put it back in the car on Sunday afternoon on the 10th of January 2020 I found that the battery was still dead. I don't believe that they done anything with the battery since I left it in their care as I mentioned there was no marking to suggest that the battery was ever sent away in the first place.

I call them just before they closed on that Sunday and there is no apology or anything. I am just told to bring the battery back. But I also asked them what the process would be if I run into any issues at the time I collected the battery and they said that I did not buy the battery from their store and there is nothing that they can do for me. That was the second instalment.

Then I email *** on the 11th of January 2021 at 10:18 in the morning to get some assistance from the head office to understand what the normal process is. I can confirm that to date there has been no response to my email.

I gave them every chance to deal with this internally but it seems as if they only react when they are approached publically (Hello Peter).

It seems as if stores being independently owned is a huge headache for us as customers. They enjoy the success and appeal from trading under the "fami**** to everyone" Midas branding but sherk responsibility when it comes to items not purchased from their particular branch/store.

Why can't a store proces a claim against a battery that was not purchased at that particular store? What is this national warranty you speak of when no one is willing to look at a product not bought from heir store? I would understand if I didn't have a receipt/proof of purchase but I do have it to hand. How many more times do I NEED TO DRIVE back and forth because you have *********** staff who don't care about the customer experience?
