I visited ABE Midas Rietfontein recently to enquire about a globe issue on my wife’s car. While I was still in the parking area, one of their employees, Mr. Vernon Delport, was standing nearby on his break. I approached him for quick advice, and despite being on his own time, he immediately stood up and offered genuine assistance.

What truly impressed me was the level of professionalism and willingness to help. He didn’t just brush me off or send me inside — he personally came over, asked me to open the bonnet, examined the globes, and gave honest guidance. He didn’t attempt to “patch” the issue or make quick sales; instead, he showed genuine concern and a customer-first attitude that is becoming increasingly rare in South Africa.

I have no idea what position Mr. Delport holds at ABE Midas, but his attitude and conduct are exactly what defines true customer service. Employees like him deserve recognition — and in my view, he should be considered for a management position.
