Electrical goods non-returnable - Midas writing their own laws?

Last week I purchased Phillips headlight bulbs from Midas Fourways after confirming with the sales guy that they are whiter than the normal bulbs. After consulting with a friend he told me that these bulbs are not whiter and are also very difficult to install. Today I went to return the bulbs and exchange them for something else, but was told that electrical goods are not returnable. Is Midas writing their own Consumer Protection Act or haven't heard about it?
