4y 2.2 motor ( toyota replacement engine )

I bought this 4y motor from Midas in December 2022. it was brand new still on the crate. sometime after I bought the engine, we installed it in our Toyota Hilux bakkie to replace the 22R motor. The motor has done about 900 km since installation. From the first start this motor was giving problems. We assumed that it still needed to run in as it smoked quite a lot. The engine had now power and was betaling to idle. After stripping the carburater we found that not all the holes were punced through. It was also leaking water from the cylinder head as the antifreeze was oozing out of the head bolts. We had the head removed and skimmed and the head gasket was replaced. We Add New spark plug, new spark plug leads and Stil the problem continues. It smoked like an engine with lots of km on the clock yet only nine hundred 900 km on the motor. Today we removed one of the pistons, only to find that the oil ring never expanded as it should, the compression rings was also warned uneven, and it did not seal properly. you could clearly see where it did not map to the cylinder wall. We also found that the main bearing was damaged when the motor was assembled. It was hit hard with something like a *****driver. We must now replace the bearings and a new ring set. So, the moral of the story is don’t ever buy one of these engines. It is a total waste of money. It is just an endless amount of cost for something that should be factory correct. The warranty is so complex that it is worth nothing

i don, t think any think anything will come from this outcry. I hope Midas do something's about these poorly manufactured engines that they sell. After replacing the bearings and ring set and honed the block. we thought it will solve the problem, but it did not. we must now take remove engine from the bakkie the second time as we now know that nr 4 piston barrel in the block is oval from the factory. with the new ring set, the oil still bypass into to combustion chamber. it is so bad that it blocks the sparkplug with oil and then nr don’t fire any more as it is full of oil. The complete engine must now be stripped and re sleaved in order to get it to work.
