Microsoft debit orders start automatically and renew automatically unless you say otherwise

Accidentally forgot to cancel a subscription before it hit. The software was not compatible. Now I had to spend time on their support chat line to get the refund requested. Surely there should be a law against deceptively getting people to enter their credit card details? They say it is a "free" trial but as soon as the trial period ends, the debit orders start, EVEN IF you haven't used the solution. This is unacceptable. There should be a confirmation request that the software is required before debiting.
