My initial quote for all the work I requested was based on 5 ½ hours. The actually job was completed in under 4hrs.

I was happy with the mechanic and his work and friendliness. However, not happy with being billed 5 ½ hours on a 4 hr job.

The explanation was that the mechanic had an assistant so the job was completed in a shorter than expected time.

This isn’t entirely true. The “assistant” was the mechanics boss that accompanied him to transport him around. And didn’t actually assist with the job.

I think the portal needs to accommodate for jobs being completed in a shorter time and bill accordingly.
