I am warning consumers to be extremely cautious when using Michanic. On 5 May 2026 (Job 328675), I booked them because my 2007 Hyundai Tucson was smoking heavily and losing power. The first technician removed the timing tensioner and found its internal plastic guides had completely liquefied and melted from extreme engine heat.Despite this massive red flag and heavy exhaust smoke, the technician failed to perform a basic cooling system pressure test. They replaced only the tensioner and explicitly cleared the vehicle, telling me it was perfectly fine to drive. Relying on this professional assurance, I drove that evening. After just 18km, the engine suffered a catastrophic thermal failure.A subsequent inspection by a second Michanic technician on 25 May 2026 (Job 332076) confirmed a blown head gasket, stretched head bolts, and severe cylinder head rust. This second inspection correctly identified the actual root cause: an active radiator leak that existed prior to the first technician's arrival.It has now been more than three weeks since the initial breakdown on 5 May, and my vehicle is left completely dismantled and stranded. Management was given a formal escalation email with photographic proof of the melted parts, which they completely ignored. A formal dispute has now been officially logged with the Motor Industry Ombudsman of South Africa (MIOSA) under Section 54 of the CPA. Avoid this company if you value your vehicle.
