Poor Quality

A year ago we contracted with Micah Kitchens to install a new kitchen in our recently refurbished home. The sales process was great, but when it came to installation, things went awry. We had several problems, inclusive of both quality of installation or workmanship as well as quality of materials used. What was installed did not match up to what we selected in the showroom... The one material that particularly bothered us was a shiny substrate that seemed to mark extensively, and very easily and looked more like a soft plastic veneer than something that would endure time in a heavy-use environment. There were markings from the first day they installed, but Micah said it was handling in the factory, and replaced all marked panels. They assured us that the substrate was hard-wearing and that with proper care (micro-cloths and benzine) the panels would last well and would not mark. A year later though, the shiny substrate has indeed marketd. Even after being treated like gold (my **** doesn't even wipe these down, i do). These panels look like they have served time in an industrial catering environment, rather than a domestic one. And this is not the only issue - the soft closing mechanisms on the drawers and doors is a joke, certain shelves and cabinets have separated from walls, and are sagging, there are gaps between the cabinets and the walls, the edging on cupboards is coming away, the cupboard joins and edges are poorly finished, the bin keeps falling out of its cupboard, etc, etc. I paid R120k for something that looks like it should have cost R50k... I have raised the matter with Micah and await their revert. What's the bet i am going to have to fork out my own money again to repair or replace the crud they installed? New customers, beware... Cash is king at Micah, not the customer.

The client Mrs. van Dyk did not even make a phone call to Micah Kitchens but instead chose to slander our company first on social media. That in itself is not an acceptable or fair manner to approach a company that has a proven track record of taking customer service very seriously. Our Design Consultant already responded to the client at 08h30 this morning after the client sent an e-mail last night. Let us make it very clear that we will contact this client immediately to meet to discuss all issues mentioned. However, we will not accept our product described as inferior and the client received exactly what she chose in our showroom at the time. The client chose a combination of high gloss red and black products for her kitchen, a delicate product in itself. When we completed the job, the client confirmed that they were happy with all and we have no control over how the product is looked after once completed. We did recommend what the manufacturer suggested as the preferred method of care. We obviously cannot know if this method was app**** by the client or not. Since completing this job last year, we have had no communication from this client at all. We are more than prepared to attend to any items that may have to be sorted, however certain items due to normal wear and tear and usage may have nothing to do with the quality of the product. Micah Kitchens has supp**** thousands of perfect kitchens over the last 29 years and we have an excellent reputation in this market. Please do not try to imply that we have not tried our utmost to satisfy you or respond to any complaint you may have had. Before the end of today, our After Sales Service team will contact you directly to arrange to meet so we discuss your concerns. Regards. Mrs Adamson - Director

Best regards,

The After Sales Team visited today and have committed to sorting out the relevant issues. I thank both Rinus and Ruhann for their objectivity and for not trying to trivialise or negate my concerns or observations regards the shiny substrate in particular. Instead they have acknowledged the issue, and have shown a willingness to assist me in sorting it all out. A follow up appointment has been arranged for their supplier to visit our home and view the problematic areas too. I will then await Micah's offer of compensation/ resolution on all above matters raised.
