A plumber and home improvement contractor not to use

I contracted this service provider <Michael Griessel> who claimed to be a qualified plumber to replace a geyser that burst. He assessed the work in my absence and reported that the geyser was incorrectly installed by a previous service provider and needed to be moved to the outside of the building. He quoted me R12 ooo for the work and was paid for it.

He moved the geyser. After completing the work there was no hot water supply in the building. He returned on several occasions over approximately one week to fix the issue and each time gave me a different reason why it was not working. He also attempted to get me to spend a further R75oo to replace pipes that he claimed was too thin despite his initial quote including the replacement of all plumbing pipes. He clearly had no idea what the problem was or how to fix it. He ended up not taking my calls and ignoring my requests to resolve the issue.

I contracted another plumber to attend to the matter. He was shocked at the shoddiness of the work and informed me that basic connections on the installation was done incorrectly <e.g. he connected the cold water inlet to the pressure release outlet> and it could have resulted in the geyser exploding. He also used non UV resistant pipes for the outside of the building which is not standard practice. I had to spend a further huge amount that correct the mistakes that he made.

He will be reported to the relevant authorities and legal action will be taken to recover the moneys paid to him.
