*************

It is with great disappointment to discover that Metropolitan does not carry out the wishes of the deceiced once they are no longer there to speak for themselves. My mother took up a RA policy with them and listed her beneficiaries, now that it's time to distribute as per her wishes they are now speaking to someone who was not even listed as a beneficiary and are taking the beneficiaries from pillar to post they have not contacted us telephonicaly but they make it a point to call the person who was not listed. They sent us an email saying that their board shall decide on who gets what and the wishes of the deceiced will be set aside. Which is funny because upon taking up their policy they tell you to nominate beneficiaries and promise to distribute as per nomination should you pass, and nothing about your wishes being set aside is ever mentioned. As a result my sister and I have canceled our life policies with them as they are not truthful.

 Dear Langelihle

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint on HelloPeter.

We are sorry to learn of your mother’s passing. Our sincere condolences go out to you and your family during this time of mourning.

We are regret to learn of your disappointment with the Retirement Annuity claim process.

Kindly note that the Retirement Annuity Fund is registered in terms of the Pensions Fund Act and South African Revenue Service (SARS). Payment of benefits from the fund is thus subject to the Pensions Fund Act, the Income Tax Act and fund rules. In the event of a death claim, with all the information available, the board of trustees will assess the claim and decide how the money will be split. The decision of how the money will be split is in line with Section 37c of the Pension Fund Act. We must identify the dependents and nominees and then decide what will be the most fair and reasonable way to divide the money amounts them. Further to this, the payment of the benefits is also governed by the Income Tax Act.

One of our Client Care Assessors will explain to you how this may apply on your mother's policy.

Regards

Client Care team

I have been trying to call your offices to no avail, throughout this process your company has sidelined us by not contacting us for any clarity needed, I want to know how is it that you are asking questions about our income and what we got from our mothers payout, is it even lawful to ask such especially since all of this has nothing to do with your company. Or are we being investigated without our knowledge, what are you trying to achieve really at the rate you are going. Our payout and income is privalaged information. You are speaking to our youngest sister who number one we have made it clear she's in school secondly you are omitting to contacting other beneficiaries yet you are asking questions which affect them. Are you trying to push her into a corner, did you even consider that it's exam time. Why are we being sidelined or according to you are we no longer children of the deceased or beneficiaries listed on her policy. We are going to seek legal advice and also contact the ombudsman as none of what you are doing seems correct to
