Unpaid policy

Message: Good day This matter is with regards to an unsettled/unpaid life cover policy by Metropolitan Life. This matter dates back to January 2017 just after the passing of my father (Mr LD Shezi) who had taken out a life policy of R200 000 with Metropolitan life of which my widowed mother is the beneficiary. We have tried on numerous occasions to submit a claim and every time we get a response with regards, there's one thing or the other that is outstanding. The range of records which have been requested are from medical records, clinical records, sick certificates (prior to when he took out the policy). The documents which they requested, some we have since submitted but others we don't have because Mr Shezi was not sick at that time (he had not been diagnosed). The treating doctors, hospitals and his previous employers do not have these records. What is more frustrating is the lack of urgency/empathy by the staff of Metropolitan life with regards to finalising this matter hence Mr LD Shezi was a paying policy holder. My widowed mother is at home, unemployed and endures a lot of pain with regards to the failure to finalise this matter. Every time we go to the Pietermaritzburg office to enquire about the progress on this matter, its the money spent and heartbreak that my mother endures and it is becoming clear that Metropolitan are not wanting to fulfill their obligation to payout what's due to my bereaved, unemployed and widowed mother. Kindly assist us to get closure on this matter as soon as possible for the record, Mr LD Shezi's treating doctors, the treating hospital and his previous employers do not have anymore records than what we have already submitted to Metropolitan life. Firstly they wanted clinical records and leave records from Greys Hospital, we submitted, then they wanted clinical and records from a private doctor, we submitted now they want clinical records and leave certificates before 1 May 2014 which is before he even took out the policy. Yours MrA. Shezi Son

Dear Mr. Shezi

Thank you for raising your concerns with or office.

We always strive to serve all our clients well and regret to learn of the delays experienced with your father's claim.

Sometimes we do need to request further medical records to assess the medical aspects of a claim.

One of our Client Care Assessors will investigate the matter and liaise with you directly via return email.

Regards

Aletta Clarence
