Think twice before taking out their funeral plan

Think twice if you are considering taking out a funeral policy with Metropolitan. I took out a funeral policy for a relative around March. No hassles, all premiums paid, 3 month waiting period completed and then my cousin passed away. The reason the policy was taken out was so as to avoid experiencing hardships in organising his funeral. On Thursday the 27th of September 2018, I visited the Metropolitan branch in Port Elizabeth and Josephine assisted with the claim. Josephine explained that the policy will be sent for assessment as it is new. First of all, I didn't understand that because the waiting period has been completed accordingly and all premiums paid, isn't that generally what is required? They then requested for a medical report, this was forwarded on Wednesday the 3rd of October and I've been since awaiting feedback from head office. Every time I contact Josephine she states that she has no feedback. I have been quite co-operative in this, paid the necessary fees for the report and submitted.

For such a big company one would have thought that the claiming process would ve swift and free from hassles. Metropolitan claims are not settled in 48 hours, that is all lies and trust me your assurance may not be trusted with them. Today, Sunday the 7th of October 2018 marks 10 days since I submitted all required documentaion. When they eventually look at this complaint it will be 11 days.

This is the worst service ever especially thinking that I trusted in this company.

Dear client

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint.

We always strive to serve all our clients well and regret to learn of the delays you have experienced with your claim.

We do aim to process funeral claims within 48 hours from receiving all claim documents and have a 95 % success rate of acheiving this.

However there are some exception, such as early duration claims.

Waiting periods are on policies to protect all our valued clients from others who may be insuring sick people, which drives up the cost of insurance for all our clients.

Therefore we do need to do additional validations if a claim occurs in the first year of the funeral policy's duration, to ensure that all matetial information was disclosed to us before we accepted the risk of insuring the life of the deceased.

Regrettably we are unable to view the policy details or your details and contact details on the HelloPeter website.

Please email your name, contact number and email address as well as the policy number to us at *** and refer to your HelloPeter post of today. You are welcome to mark the email for attention of Shameela or Lindiswa.

Upon receipt thereof we will investigate and revert back to you.

Still received no contact from anyone regarding this complaint, its been two weeks since I submitted my claim. Only received an email yesterday stating that they are currently communicating with the claims department regarding the delay, but there has since been no further communication. No reply to emails. This is one bad insurer.
