Shocking treatment of retired South Africans by Metropolitan life
I just want to let everyone know how pathetic the service is from Metropolitan life. As a pensioner my Mother gets a small payout every month via Metropolitan. In December 2019 payments where made on the 17th of the month, In Jan 2020 to date no payments have been received as yet and it's now 29th Jan. How does Metropolitan life expect and old person to survive for this period of time with nothing. Calling the call centre is an absolute joke and nobody has a number for HO so you can take your complaint further. Absolutely shocking. And in the advert they say they care ? What *******.

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint.
We are not allowed to provide you with any policy specific information around your mother's Annuity policy.
This being said, we can confirm that for Annuity payments, we schedule payments so that the funds are available in the client's account on the last working day of the month.
We also take into account how long the various banks take to release the funds in the client's account and accommodate this turnaround time into account when we schedule our payments.

This being said, we can confirm that for Annuity payments, we schedule payments so that the funds are available in the client's account on the last working day of the month.
We also take into account how long the various banks take to release the funds in the client's account and accommodate this turnaround time into account when we schedule our payments.
- Therefore, though a payment may already be loaded on our system early on in the month, it will only be marked for payment at the end of the month
- Also, if the bank takes one day to release the funds, we schedule the payment for the day before the last working day of the month, so that the payment will clear overnight on the second-last day of the month and be available in the annuitant's account on the last working day of the month.
- If the banks have a two-day turnaround time to release funds, we take that into account as well and schedule the payment for two days before the last day working day of the month, so that the funds will clear in time to be available on the last working day of the month
Your mother will also see that during December each year, she will receive her Annuity payment a little earlier than normal and the rest of the year, payments will default back to month end.
