Policy no : *** experience

I have nothing good to say about Metropolitan, If you are thinking that your children will be taken well off after you have passed on, think again. My policy number is :***.

Issues: -They do not call to update you about what's going on with your policy when you have submitted a claim. _ They only wait for you to follow up for them to tell you there are some documents you have not submitted. -When you contact them online, they promise to call but never call _ You have to spend the last cents that you have to call them of which they keep on saying the "board"is still making a decision.

- If one beneficiary cannot be found, I do not understand why they can't freeze the funds for the beneficiary that cannot be found until they find him/her and process the money for the other parties that are available and have sent all the documents required. -Kids end up suffering as if you can pause the responsibility of having to pay school fees for them and food.

You would swear you are waiting for a donation from unwilling parties!!

The experience with Metropolitan life is HORRIBLE!

Dear Yokazi

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint.  We regret to hear of your dissatisfaction.

Unfortunately Retirement Annuity proceeds is subject to the Income Tax Act as well as the Pension Funds Act.

This means we have to ensure we distribute proceeds to the deceased's financial dependents and adhere to the Income Tax Act at the same time.

The above legislation, particularly the Pension Funds Act impose specific duties on an Insurer to ensure that proceeds of a Retirement product reaches the lawful financial dependents of the deceased.

Regrettably this necessitates several more steps in the claim assessment process than an ordinary life cover or funeral cover policy would need.

We will escalate your complaint to our Retirement Annuity claim assessors, who will be in contact with you.

Regards

We have given you all the documentations requested to prove that the beneficiaries are indeed lawful financial dependents of the deceased, nothing is outstanding. The only issue here is the person you cannot get hold of, which you are able to freeze their share until they are found. Pension Fund Act does not prohibit you to do that.
