Policy exchanged

My husband had a policy with them covered people people both covered for 10000 last month the other member passed away he went to claim submitted all needed documents then told that the cover was done wrong and he is not going to get that amount he must wait while the office was busy calculating they only paid on the 15th of January and the paid 2878.62i called the manager asking how does their office work instead of fixing the problem they penalise the client even though the client was not given the right information or asked relevant questions all along they were debuting the money with no fail but when it's their time to deliver they come with stories saying according to the amount he was paying and the relationship to the deceased the money only cover that amount.... There's no one can cover someone for 2878 what is it going to do

Dear Nomalizo

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint on HelloPeter.

We always strive to serve all our clients well and provide solutions whereby our clients can make provision for various financial needs, such as the loss of a loved one.

We are sorry to read of the loss in your family.  Our thoughts and prayers remain with you and the family during this time of bereavement.

What you have described, points to a re-construction of benefits.  This is a lengthy process that we don't embark on unnecessarily:

  • Please note that at application stage we rely on the information provided by the applicant when they apply to cover themselves and their relatives.

  • When the claim documents are received, we have to do several validations in order to verify the information received at application and claim stage to establish the validity of the claim.

  • Where information was not correctly disclosed at application stage, Metroplitan was  unfortunately deprived of the opportunity to  assess the risk of insuring the relative's life and if the relative could still have been insured, at what premium.

  • Though the contract makes provision for the repudiation of the claim and forfeiture of the premiums, we do not unilaterally impose these terms and conditions.  Where a person could have been insured on the plan, we do a re-construction of the plan given the facts that emerged at claim stage.

  • Since it is too late by then to recalculate and quote the premium the applicant would have had to pay for the (now) deceased participant, had Metropolitan been informed of the correct details of the relative, we re-construct the policy by checking what cover the applicant could have purchased for the relative, with the premium we received for that relative/participant.

One of our Escalation Specialists will investigate what the scenario was on your husband's policy and revert back to you as soon as possible.

Regards
