Pay arrears instead of reinstating

I’m not happy with service I got from momentum. I have a funeral policy with the business I have been paying the policy for 11 years without fail! Today I called to enquire since I saw on my bank statement that they haven’t been debiting I was told that my policy has lapsed and now I have to reinstate it and I have to start over as a new member. They claim that the debit order kept on bouncing back but I did not see any of that on my bank statement there was no communication from momentum at all. I’d rather pay the arrears starting over is totally unfair on my side considering the fact that I paid for 11 years without fail and since 2009 I haven’t even made a single claim

Dear Gugu

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint, forwarded to us by our Momentum Client Care division.

In the unlikely event that you are unaware that Metropolitan is administering this particular product after Momentum and Metropolitan merged in 2011, please note that it is administered at Metropolitan's head office since March of 2012.  This being said, the terms and conditions of your policy are unaffected by this change in administration venue.

The product still has the same great features that help our clients to sustain their policies as it had when you took out this policy:
  •   Clients still qualify for 1 premium holiday benefit for every 12 premiums received - up to a maximum of 6 premium holiday benefits over the lifetime of the policy
  •   Clients still have one opportunity to reinstate their policy within 3 months of lapse date - we then collect the arrear premium and no further waiting period is applicable.
  •   Clients who have already exhausted this reinstatement or don't qualify for it anymore, may also consider re-commencing their policy.
  • Re-commencement basically means that you re-start your policy and new waiting periods are applicable to each insured life, but that the same premium/rates are charged for the cover they used to enjoy, despite the insured lives being older and cost of covering them would be more now.

We will investigate your complaint and see if and how these features are applicable to your specific policy and revert back to you directly as soon as possible.

Regards

Client Care Team
