No Funeral due to Metropolitan

Good Day.

To Whom it May Concern.

In as much as I am not surprised but I'm angry. I was highly convinced by one of Metropolitans sales rep to buy into a a funeral policy to cover my loved ones should anything happen to them.

I listened and decided to sign up, that was in January, in the 6th month of which my policy had matured, I lost my sister which I had covered.

I went to Metropolitan branch at Maponya Mall with all relevant documents and submitted a claim, of which had follow ups in terms of payout methods and beneficiaries, I was able to resolve the issue personally without their assistance, I received smses (as attached) that my claim has been received and finalized, when I was supposed to receive a payout a month later, even after burial, I got another sms (attached) that the policy was declined due to the deadline.

Now why was this not mentioned to me at first at the branch, why was this not mentioned when I was being convinced once again to buy a new policy with Metropolitan, why was it not mentioned in the numerous calls and emails, sent forward to Metropolitan by myself.

This is a money making scheme of which is not fair on the policy payer as we make such arrangements to be at ease should such a time come but they make it very impossible to give a decent send-off and even cause strife in families.

I want a thorough understanding, investigation and analysis of my policy taken with Metropolitan, more so I want the claimed amount to be paid as promised when taking this policy.

Policy No. - ***

Kind Regards. Nokuthula Nkabinde

Dear Nokuthula,     I am sorry to hear about your claims experience and wish to extend our sincerest condolences with the loss our your cousin.    There is no  underwriting done at application stage  when you wanted to cover your cousin  however a 6 month waiting period applies.  Unfortunately  your cousin died within the waiting period and the claim could not be considered.   I note, you have submitted your complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman for Long-term Insurance.   Your concerns will be investigated and a response provided in terms of  the agreed process with the regulators.
