Mislead left without cover

I am a 67 year old female who has had a policy with Metropolitan from 1992 (that acquits to 25 years) . My policy was taken for R15000 for my spouse and mother.

In the year 2013 we had a Consultant come to my work and offered myself and colleagues at that time upgrade on our existing policy. This upgrade comprised of R50,000 for each of my members plus inkomo.

At that point I accepted and took upgrade.

· At no point was it mentioned to me that I need to pay for this policy for 10 years before retirement to qualify for this policy or for it to take effect in the event of my death. If I had known I would have rather saved my premium of R1066.80 (which would have been more than the R50.000 I was going to receive.

The consultant was very much aware of my age and my retirement age was near when I took up this policy. I went to the offices when I found out through Assupol that if you retired you can stop paying premiums and your policy will remain as is up until my death.

My questions are:

Is this true that now I am left without cover after so many years of loyalty with Metropolitan.

Can I have my contract signed with the Consultant that verifies that I did know I will have to pay policy for 10 years before qualifying for this benefits.

I would like feedback soonest with regards to my this query, I am old and need to know where I stand, i cannot take up any policies over R15000 because im old and regarded as a risk profile. I dont want to be a burden to my children in the event of my death.

I would like my policy reinstated to R50000 as per what was communicated to me.
