METROPOLITAN - POOR SERVICE DELIVERY.

METROPOLITAN - POOR SERVICE DELIVERY.

I am utterly disappointed and appalled by METROPOLITAN LIFE INSURER'S POOR SERVICES RENDERED to myself and my little sister.

Our Mother passed on last year September 2020. 1st (Funeral Benefit) and last claim (Retirement Annuity). I will never recommend anyone to take up a policy with them.

I made a funeral benefit claim in one of their offices in Hatfield Pretoria. I was assisted by Ernest who failed me dismally while grieving and trying to make preparations to lay our mother to rest. He assured me the claim would be processed within 48 hours. By the time I arrived in Eastern Cape from Gauteng three days later. He hadn't processed my claim, I guess his leave was more important.

I had to have a seat down with a manager in my hometown in one of their branches for the claim to be processed.

Upon my return I proceeded to claim for my mother's retirement annuity which until now the claim hasn't been paid out. The frustrations they are putting me through, I am struggling to give my little sister everything she needs according to our mothers instructions and wishes.

I have made multiple phone calls, sent the same emails with the required documents, the response I get from their customer care line is that they can see I sent the documents since February this year but no one has attended to my case.

I am so fed up by companies that claim to be the best in what they do and yet I have been failed multiple times.

I am still waiting after so many attempts to speak to someone that can give me answers and help me.

Dear Azukile

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint on HelloPeter.

Please note that a Retirement Annuity falls under the provisions of the Pension Funds Act and Income Tax Act.

As such, we as the insurer have a duty to consider all the deceased's legal and financial dependents when deciding on the distribution of the proceeds.
  • Typically these claim assessments take longer than a death claim on a funeral policy or life cover policy.
  • Often, family dynamics being as different and unique as each of our valued policyholders are from one another.
  • Therefore it is not possible to know ahead of time all the requirements that we may require.
  • We subsequently often need to request additional information to assess the claim, as information unfolds regarding dependency on the deceased.

During the course of the assessment, our Claims Assessors have been in contact with you on several occasions, requesting additional documentation.  The latest communication was via email on 22 September 2021.

One of our Client Care Assessors will be in contact soonest, to update you on the outstanding requirements, in case you did not trace the latest email.

Regards

Client Care Team
