Metropolitan Life is the pits, really!!!!!! Bottom of the Barrel trash service!

Metropolitan Life has no regard for their customers. The worst part is that they deal with a business that requires empathy. I submitted a death claim and was told by consults that I will not get the full sum assured because my uncle died before my debit order. I’m still waiting for an explanation from Vusi the claims assessor and the suppose branch manager that morena from the call center escalated my query to. Please make it make sense that premiums are deducted from the sum assured after 5 years of paying premiums. It’s the lack of customer service to even explain what thier business SOP is. How is that in line with TCF? It’s *********. Then after the short pay the payout I get an email from Carmelita McArthur saying I owe premiums? Which premium? It’s been over a week since I logged multiple complaints. No one has even bothered to address any. I’m still waiting for my payment schedule. You business is supposed to provide peace of mine in our time off need. They don’t care. We pay a fortune to be treated like door mats honestly. It’s disgusting

Dear Philile

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint on HelloPeter.

We are sorry to learn of your uncle's passing.  Please accept our sincere condolences at the loss of your loved one.

Please be advised that it is a basic principle of insurance that cover is provided by the insurer) in return for premiums paid by (or on behalf of) the insured.
  • Policy premiums are due and payable on the first day of each month
  • However our clients have the option to select any day of the month when they pay their premiums via bank debit order

As such, when the debit order date is before the claim, we have already received the premium for the deceased for that month's cover.

However, if the debit order is scheduled for later in the month - after we process the claim, the premium for that month's cover has not yet been received.

It is then our practice to deduct the premium from the claim amount:
  • if the full policy premium is deducted from the claim proceeds, we don't bill a premium on the scheduled debit order date for that month, as we would have received the premium for the policy for that month from the claim proceeds already
  • if we  only deduct the premium for that participants cover amount from the claim amount, we bill the balance of the policy premium on the normally scheduled debit order date as we have already collected the deceased's premium for that month from the claim amount.
  • The reduced premium is then billed from the following month as no further premiums are required for the deceased

One of our Client Care Assessors will investigate and revert back to you to indicate how this app**** to your claim/s.

Regards

Client Care Team
