Metropolitan is useless

My late husband made our kids beneficiaries, they submitted their claim in January 2021 at Metropolitan in King William's Town. Until today nothing has been paid when they enquire as to what is the delay the reponse from metropolitan they are referred to number of useless people who always request same documents all over again. They even said this can take up to 12 months for them to pay my children. It seems as if meteopolitan does not care about how the kids are paying their school fees, how are they managing without a parent that was providing for them. Metropolitan is failing my children during this hard time in their lives.

Dear Zukiswa

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint on HelloPeter.

Please note that Retirement Annuities fall under the provisions of the Pension Funds and Income Tax Acts.  As such, we as the insurer need to ensure we distribute proceeds in terms of Section 37C of the Act - i.e. consider all the legal and financial dependents of a deceased member of the fund.

The insurer is allowed up to 12 months for such a claim to be processed, due to complexity of the assessment criteria needed.

However, we always strive to finalize the claim as swiftly as possible as we realize the family is often in dire need of the funds after losing their loved one.

We have previously received correspondence and communicated that some of the documents could not open in the format they were sent.

We will urgently arrange for the claims consultant to reach out to you again, with the latest list of outstanding requirements and endeavor to finalize the claim as soon as we can.

Regards

Client Care Team.

Best regards,

Why did metroplitan not contact my kids, why wait for them to always enquire as to what is happening all the time, and you keep on asking for the same documents they have sent. That format issue also came out when their attorney wrote an email to metropolitan otherwise they would not have known. Your service is bad I still maintain.
