Metropolitan is a ****.No payout for life cover policy of someone who passed on in 2011.
Metropolitan life must be running a **** of a company. My mother had a retirement annuity and life cover policy with them and they are giving my siblings and I the run around when it comes to paying out. We have submitted all documents they asked for and they told us to wait for 6 weeks while the board decides. 6 weeks later, they tell us to resubmitt the claim again and wait another 6 weeks for the board, they have to decide whether they are going to make the pay out or not. Imagine opening a policy to leave for your children and the company keeps giving them the run around and does not want to pay out. They were quick to draw premiums from my mom but when they have to make a payout, they stall. Mind you my mother passed on in 2011 and we were only informed of the policy last year. We have dealt with other insurance companies before and they were very professional and paid out within 7 working days no hassles. Metropolitan is just a **** of a company.
We regret to learn of the delays you have encountered with your late mother's Retirement Annuity claim.
Unfortunately your post did not contain sufficient information for us to trace the policy number your complaitn is about.
One of our Client Care Assessors will be contacting you for more information in this regard.
Please bear in mind that:
- It is always more difficult to process claims if a claim is submitted long after an insured person has passed on.
** Then we'd first need to investigate if there would have been a valid claim, had we known of the insured's passing and then restore the policy back on record, in order to process a claim. )
- Also note that Retirement Annuity policies do take longer to pay out than for instance funeral policies and/or life cover policies and/ or endowment policies, where a beneficiary is nominated or the claim is payable to the estate or in case of funeral policies, to the spouse/undertaker/person who can prove they have paid for the funeral or to the insured's estate.
** As such insurers need to establish who the insured's financial and legal dependents were as well as their level of dependency on the insured and obtain proof thereof.
This information is crucial for the Board of Trustees to distribute the proceeds of a Retirement Annuity policy in line with the provisions of these two pieces of legislation.
This being said, we will be contacting you for more information in order to investigate your complaint and ensure you receive the necessary information / requirements that may be outstanding in order to finalize the claim.
