Metropolitan is a ****

My experience with metropolitan was terrible to say the least. Their investigators are a group of unprofessional *********** individuals who insult their clients. They do lousy investigations in order to decline claims. Furthermore, what bothers me the most, is that I requested the recording where their investigator rudely interacted with me; because I want to send it to my lawyers. It has been over a month and they still haven't sent me that recording. Their own policy states that they send you recordings on your request. I requested it and still...nothing. They didn't even have the decency to respond to the email I sent them requesting the recordings. This is because they know that the interaction was unprofessional and against code of conduct. Also, they never sent me my policy documents after I took out the policy with them about a year ago. So in essence, I didn't even know what I was covered for or any clauses. I requested via the same email I sent, that they send me proof, that they sent me my policy documents after I took the cover with them. To this day they haven't responded with that proof. Mind you, I discovered that they spelled my beneficiaries surname incorrectly. Had they sent me the documents earlier, I would have corrected it. This is the level of incompetence I had to deal with. Had I passed away, they would've denied my brother the claim because of their own incompetence of documenting correctly. It is also in my understanding that that the Long Term Insurance Act, allows up to R20k payout for children under the age of 6, i.e. there is a limit. Metropolitan claimed, in the telephone conversation with their investigator, that a child born in 2020 was covered for R100k. How is this possible?? With all the investigation they claimed to have done, they claimed the child never even existed. Mind you, they didn't even bother to visit the hospital where the child was born to discover what birth defects the child had, which is why I covered the child in the first place. They insist on torturing the mother of the late child, knowing she just lost an infant, to the point she shutdown and had a psychological breakdown.

5 Days later, I still haven't received my recordings or the proof that you sent me my policy documents at the time I took the policy out. What a disgrace. If you don't have them, have the decency to tell me, stop pretending you are digging the recordings from lost files. It shouldn't be so hard to provide the client with what you clearly state in your policy, you are willing to give.

You still have not refunded my premiums. You failed to give me the policy within time-frames, you only gave me the policy for the first time after declining my claim. That's **********. You never gave me an opportunity to read through your policy and decide whether I still wanted the cover with you guys. What type of insurance company are you? So many deliberate negligent things that you do. You abuse your own clients. Refund me please.

Also. Please send me evidence that you went to Chief Albert Luthuli. You guys claimed this child never existed without even checking any hospital records. Kindly show me the evidence of the non-existence of this child. You also claim that you don’t keep recordings of your forensic investigators when they call your clients. Why is that?? Is it because you’re running away from legal action?? I want that recording with the investigator and I want to evidence that there are no hospital records of the child that ever existed.

Except you never sent it at inception. The fact that you dated the document for inception date, doesn’t mean you actually sent it at inception

Dear Nompilo.

Thank you for your additional comments.

Policy documentation is automatically sent out  at inception date.  There is no human intervention that prevents it from being sent.

Receipt of the documentation/or delivery is however dependent on:
  • The postal service for clients whose documents are posted
  • Email servers, for those who receive their policy documents digitally

Once it is sent out, we rely on the postal service or email servers to deliver it to our clients.

As soon as it is sent out, we store a digital copy on our archives.  This is what we sent to you - not a re-dated or back-dated reproduction.

Regards

Client Care Team

It's funny how policy documents from Metropolitan are the only ones that never reached my email. I always check policy documents to ensure the information documented is accurate. Yet your policy had spelling errors and you tell me that you sent them to me at inception. I would have never sat all this time without fixing such errors with you guys, I'm highly paranoid and I hate any errors on any policy documents as I know that you guys use such errors to decline claims even though the error was done by yourselves. Not only that, but other companies call to confirm with their clients verbally and on record that they received their policy documents. I'm willing to bet the whole R10k claim that you denied me, that you have no such recording of me confirming receipt of your policy documents. I still maintain that it is highly ***** business practice for an insurance company like yourselves to not record ALL conversations with your investigators with the clients. It is reckless to say the least. I thought I had it bad till my colleague told me you guys declined her claim for her mother's funeral. She had been paying premiums to you guys since 1998. You guys honestly have no shame. According to you guys, all your clients are claiming for people that never existed. Yet you had no problem taking premiums all those months. If your forensic unit has identified an issue of some of your clients claiming for non-existing people, would it not then make sense to verify existence of these people BEFORE taking peoples premiums???

Dear Nompilo

Thank you once again for your additional comments.

At application stage we accept the information provided to us in good faith.

At claim stage we need to validate the information previously provided in order to see if the claim is a valid one.

These validations are important to protect you and our other clients from ********** who wish to enrich themselves at the cost of not only Metropolitan, but also our valued clients.  If all claims are paid without validations, we would not be able to afford to provide you with the cover you apply for, at the reasonable rate you agree to pay for it.

There are a number reasons a claim could be invalid, not necessarily that an insured person does not/did not exist.

We have already advised that we have escalated your complaint to management of our Forensic Services division and we await their report.

We cannot comment on why your colleagues claim was declined.  She is welcome to reach out to us directly on *** so we can investigate her matter too.

We will revert back to you directly as soon as we receive the report from Forensic Services management.

Regards

Client Care Team

Can we please not lie about the “In good faith” part. You don’t do verifications when people take out cover with you because it’s financially beneficial to you. You get rewarded for declining claims. That’s how all insurance companies work. You will search to find any & every reason to decline a claim. It is by no coincidence that Metropolitan has so many negative reviews. So please, spare me the “good faith” part. There’s nothing you do in good faith. You do everything to keep the company running and your funds in tact. Even the investment portfolio side has negative reviews. And that’s the simplest side to manage but you guys are still drastically failing there too. People want to withdraw their investments with you guys because guys have no integrity. And you have no shame either.
