Metropolitan Funeral Policy

Well having read all the complaints I am not surprised that I too have been let down by Metropolitan. My dad passed away last week after 8 months of illness. A week before I phoned and confirmed what procedure needs to be followed should he pass away - got all the info, they should pay in 48 hours, and was told to email it through. Unfortunately a few days after my enquiry my dad passed away - so I made my submission as advised. When following up the next day I was advised I should have gone to a Metropolitan office for the process to be facilitated. (I live in a rural farming community and the nearest offices are between 2 and a half to four hours away - not convenient when dealing with a death in the family) I have been a Metropolitan client for nearly 18 years and to be treated with no compassion, this is just business and pushed around is completely unacceptable. Phoned them today and am advised the documents were on received on Friday - two days after being submitted (I did receive notification that they had been received). And have now been told my claim will be escalated and I should get a response in 48 hours. Our funeral is over, we are out of pocket and Metropolitan are still looking into it.

So half my query has been sorted out. Phoned yesterday to follow up on an outstanding claim and told I need to go and submit it - I have already done so - TWICE! And a previous consultant confirmed documents had been received. Yesterday I was left to hang on for 15 minutes and the consultant did not come back to me. I have e-mailed - no response. This is extremely frustrating and costing me more time and airtime. We have lost a loved one and are still needing to deal with this frustration. Metropolitan are quick to sign you up, take your money monthly and then when it comes to making a claim treat you unprofessionally and without care.
