Metropolitan funeral cover

took a funeral cover for my father last year in october.then my father past away 30th of jan, then i took all necesary documents needed for claim at metropolitan. To my surprise,i got an sms confiming dat the claim has been received but i was told to submit my birth certificate or clinic card to prove dat he is my father.it came as a suprise to me as when i took dat policy i was never informed that i will be asked such confidential information.its been 2weeks now since my father has been buried and i haven't got the payout or even a call from metropolitan. I feel dat the company has failed me and im considering to cancel all other policies dat i have with them.im very much disappointed

Dear Setshego

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint.

We are sorry to learn of your father's passing.  Please accept our sincere condolences during this time of bereavement.

Please be advised that at application stage we rely on the the information provided by the applicant to assess the risk of insuring the lives of the applicant and/or the person's they wish to insure on the plan.  The information provided by the applicant is accepted in good faith and the policy is issued, based on this information.

At claim stage, we have have to ensure the claim is valid, before paying it.   Therefore, one of the validations we have to do is to confirm insurable interest, i.e. the relationship between the claimant and the deceased.

  • Unfortunately not every potential client is equally honest and many ********** may try to people un-related to them.
  • It is entrenched in our laws that one may not profit (make business) out of other people's deaths.
  • There is automatic insurable interest if the insured person is one's parent
  • This is the reason we have requested proof that the deceased is your father, not to be intrusive or glean more personal information than what we are in need of to assess the claim.

We apologise if this seemed insensitive or intrusive.  That is certainly not our intent.

One of our Client Care Assessors will reach out to you shortly regarding your claim.

Regards

Client Care Team
