Lack of Transparency in Waiting Period Extension: A Disappointing Experience with Metropolitan Life

I recently had the unfortunate experience of having my funeral cover claim declined with Metropolitan Life, and I feel compelled to share my dissatisfaction with the level of service provided. What was particularly disheartening was the lack of transparency regarding the extension of the waiting period when premiums are deducted directly from my salary.

Upon purchasing the funeral cover policy, the sales consultant failed to explain the crucial detail that allowing premiums to be deducted from my salary would result in an extended waiting period. This oversight proved to be a significant factor in the subsequent denial of my claim.

The absence of clear communication on this matter during the policy inception process is both frustrating and disappointing. As a policyholder, I believe it is imperative to be fully informed about the implications of premium payment methods, especially when it directly affects the waiting period and, consequently, the eligibility of claims.

The denial of my claim has not only caused financial strain but has also eroded the trust I initially placed in Metropolitan Life. It is disheartening to realize that the company's failure to communicate such a critical aspect of the policy has had real and negative consequences for me.

I strongly urge Metropolitan Life to address this issue promptly and enhance its communication practices during the sales consultation process. Policyholders deserve clarity and transparency, especially when making decisions that impact the effectiveness of their coverage.

In conclusion, my experience with Metropolitan Life has been marred by a lack of disclosure, leading to a frustrating denial of a legitimate claim. I hope that this feedback prompts the company to review and improve its communication practices to better serve its valued policyholders.

Dear Patrick

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint.

As Metropolitan we strive in providing excellent service to all our clients.

Kindly be informed the waiting periods on funeral policies is not extended by your mode of payment. When a death occurs on a funeral policy we will look at the inception date/start date, the date of death and cause of death. That is what determines if the deceased died in the waiting period and not the mode of payment.

We confirm that we are busy investigating your complaint.

One of our escalation specialist will revert back to you shortly.

Yours sincerely,

Thank you for the reply. If i knew that the first premium would have started sooner should it have been deducted directly from my bank account, than that would have been my first option, nobody explained that if my premiums will be deducted from my salary it will start 2months later. I did not know that.
