Death claim

Metropolitan is a disgrace.I made a death claim on Friday the 5th,have been making follow ups instead of them updating me.Today on the 12th after making several follow ups they just told me they can't cover the deceased since he was divorced and yet money was deducted from my salary every month.Very dissapointed and upset.

Dear Palesa

We acknowledge receipt of your complaint on HelloPeter.

We always strive to serve all of our clients well and regret to read that you have encountered difficulties with your claim.

Please be advised that we rely on the information you provide us with at application stage to assess the risk of insuring your life and those of the relatives you wish to insure on your policy.

It is therefore imperative that you accurately disclose the relationships between you and the people you wish to insure on your policy, when you apply for the policy or when you add them to your policy.

If you accurately disclose their relationship when you apply for the cover, Metropolitan can advise you at application stage already whether or not a relative qualifies for cover under the definitions of the relatives allowed on the plan.

This being said, one of our Escalation Specialists will investigate and revert back to you as soon as possible.

Regards

Client Care Team

The deceased was staying with me,even after his divorce, hence i added him on the policy. Why does it have to be a big deal whereas the company just have to payout the money that's been deducted for all these years?
I have been asking for a copy of contract and still waiting.

Dear Palesa

Thank you for your additional comment.

At application stage we accept what the applicant says in good faith and base our risk assessment on the information provided in the interest of activating the cover app**** for as soon as possible.

At claim stage, we have to do validations to see if the insured is related to the policy owner and in the way they have declared at application stage.  Where any discrepancies are identified, the onus is on the claimant to provide proof of the relationship.

We are still in the process of investigating and have not been able to validate the relationship after divorce.  We will revert back to you as soon as possible.

Regards

Client Care Team
