Beware of funeral policies only paying out in the case of accidental death only
My father, at age 77 died recently and he had a funeral policy with Metropolitan Life. A while back he increased his cover, but he was not made aware that the increased cover is only in the case of accidental death. And so, the funeral policy only paid out a nominal amount due to his natural death. I have come to realise that this is a trend within several funeral policy providers, and they are not up front with the accidental death cover condition. This has happened to 3 members in our family now (all three in the senior age bracket), and so I wanted to warn people to please double check your funeral cover conditions. And I wonder how much money the companies have made with selling these accidental cover funeral policies and people not realising it. It really saddens me that people are misled and not made aware of these terms explicitly.
